ABOUT

The Future of European Film, co- created by young people

Let's rewind to where it all began: a group of teenagers from around Europe, all former jury members of the Young Audience Award, got together to brainstorm. We wanted a space beyond awards, a place where young people like us could connect year-round through European cinema. The European Film Academy invited us to co-create it.

Now, that idea is a reality - European Film Club! A place for teenagers like you to watch and discuss European films online or in person.

You can join a film club on the platform and meet young people from different countries or start your own film club and invite your friends. You can also rate and review films and help other members discover the ones you love. Plus, you get the chance to learn about filmmaking and be inspired by our interviews with filmmakers.

Our most active members may get the opportunity to join us in festivals and other cool events.

So, if you're aged 12 to 19 and want to discover the world around you through cinema, European Film Club is for you.

Join us, and let's shape the future of European cinema together.

MISSION

Building love of European film for the next generation

The European Film Club is a platform and a community where young people can gather, watch, and talk about European cinema.

Our team of young curators is building an exciting collection of films that showcase diverse stories and cultures. You'll get an insight into the lives of others and learn what it truly means to be European through the power of cinema.

When you join us on this cinematic adventure, you're not only exploring European film - you're investing in your own cultural journey. Hey that sounds good, right!

YOUTH COUNCIL

Representing your views

The Youth Council was formed in January 2021 and has 11 members from 8 countries. They co-founded the European Film Club idea and are co-creating every aspect - the platform, the films, the look and design, the Summit, the podcasts and interviews with filmmakers. They represent your views.

The Youth Council is supported by a Consultation Group of currently 68 young people from 21 European countries, meeting every two months to advise on the work on the European Film Club.

Bringing energy and new ideas, new members for both the Youth Council are elected every year from the Consultation Group which adds participants year round from enthusiastic film enthusiasts.

INSIGHTS

Consulting young people

In creating European Film Club, we consulted widely through the Young Audience
Survey carried out by the European Film Academy and its partners,
which involved 342 young people from 25 countries.
We found out that:

would like to watch more European films

would like the film industry
to make it easier to watch
European films

do not attend a film club

would like to join the European
Film Club

are interested in learning to
make their own films

“...we want to use their opinions and their ideas
to create the main film club...so that we can build
the film club better, as it's a film club created by
young people for young people.”

OBJECTIVES

A pan-European network of film clubs

The Young Audience Summit and the Young Audience Survey confirmed much of the
early thinking behind European Film Club, aiming to establish a network of film
clubs across Europe, co-created by young people. This network aims to:

OBJECTIVE 1

All year access to European films

Offer a platform and a network for year-round engagement around European films, all created by and for young people.

OBJECTIVE 2

Film collection

Curate a vibrant collection of films, combining European classics and Young Audience Award winners, selected by and for young people in collaboration with industry professionals.

OBJECTIVE 3

A network of film clubs

Continuously expand the network of film clubs through communication campaigns, online and in-person screenings, events, discussions, podcasts, and interviews.

OBJECTIVE 4

Celebrate diversity

Encourage young people to share what it means to be European and celebrate its diverse expressions through film, including different cultures and nationalities.

OBJECTIVE 5

Exchange ideas & experiences

Encourage international exchange through online discussions, film reviews, ratings, and regular events.

OBJECTIVE 6

Young people's film content

Learn about film and filmmaking and how to share your own film content

OBJECTIVE 7

Promoting sustainability

The European Film Club aims to become carbon neutral and promote environmental sustainability through film.

OBJECTIVE 8

Learn about film

Give aspiring young filmmakers an insight into the film industry and encourage them to share their creations.
